Paa (Bollywood Movie) – Yusuf’s review
“Paa” – that is what a child at 12 years would look up to its daddy dear and call with happiness (and sometimes fear) filled in its heart. But in “Paa” the movie, the child hasn’t a chance to call someome with the special word (Oops did i leak out anything, i hope not!). But none the less, the progeric ( a extremely rare medical condition where a child ages 5 or 6 times its own age) child gets to say this word in the movie. Watch it to find out when!.
On to the movie’s main cast now; Amitabh Bachchan, filled with prosthetic make up by Stephan Dupuis has made the role of a progeric child come alive in the name of ‘Auro’. After all, when the director R Balki is questioned as to where he came up with the progeria idea, he says ”I did not think of making a film on Progeria at all. I wanted to make a film where Amitabh would play Abhishek’s son. I discovered Progeria along the way.” Abhishek Bachchan plays his MP role named ‘Amol Arte’ with much aptness and with his straight forward talk will make one sit upright and watch the movie with more intensity in the respective scenes, be it a political one or a social one. Vidya Balan as the mum of Auro has emotionally played her part, quite emotionally. Paresh Rawal, as the retired politician and worried father of Amol Arte has essayed his role with ease. I should mention about Pratik Katare (the kid actor) who plays Auro’s classmate named ‘Vishnu’ who shows us the other side of a father when his child is poor in studies. Of course, it is shown with good laughs from the audiences with the witty dialogues filled with hard hitting messages.
But before one can decide that Paa is about progeria – the rare medical condition, NO it is not. It is about a father-son relationship and how many emotions are subsumed in this relationship. On the music, well, what do you think Ilaiyaraja would have scored? The Back Ground Music is just integrated seamlessly into the movie and the tunes are just profound enough to tickle your emotions when required. PC Sreeram’s cinematography might look simple yet it gives a fresh view of the background, no matter how dull it may seem in real.
In all, Paa would be a fun ride with Auro’s intelligence and witty takes on several issues but they all convey meaning in one way or the other.
I would give a score of 8/10 for the extremely intelligent and witty son of the Paa.
Have your say.
